At the plenary session, the European Parliament has approved “Agreement on Operative and Strategic Partnership between Georgia and EUROPOL”.
According to the procedures Europol Council will grant authorization to the EUROPOL Directorate, which will pay visit to Georgia in the nearest future for signing the agreement.
Ministry of Internal Affairs has been working intensively to conclude the agreement with EUROPOL.
In July of 2015 EUROPOL experts evaluated personal data protection quality in Georgia and issued positive report in December 19 of the same year. According to the report Ministry of Internal Affairs is fully compliant with EUROPOL standards with regards to personal data protection.
After enactment of the agreement, Georgia will become operative partner of EUROPOL, European Police Service and cooperate on operative as well as on non-operative level. According to the agreement Georgian side will join investigative groups organized within the frames of EUROPOL, exchange operative information and personal data with European Police Service through the secure channel, receive analysis–based police information, send liaison officer at the EUROPOL Headquarters to ensure close and effective communication with and European Police Service.
Similar high-level agreement has been concluded by EUROPOL with United States, Canada, Austria, Norway, Switzerland, Iceland and etc.
Operative partnership with EUROPOL means that Georgia will take a worthy place in the police cooperation union of the EU countries.
