Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Aleksandre Darakhvelidze, participated in the review of the 5th periodic report of Georgia within the frames of the UN Human Rights Committee.
In July of the current year, in the city of Geneva, at the 135th session of the UN Human Rights Committee, the 5th periodic report of Georgia on the implementation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights- (OHCHR) was discussed.
Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Aleksandre Darakhvelidze represented the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the Georgian delegation.
The Georgian side provided the UN Human Rights Committee with comprehensive information regarding the important legislative and institutional reforms implemented in the direction of ensuring human rights protection throughout the reporting period.
During the discussion, the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs made special focus on the effective steps taken by the Ministry of Internal Affairs aimed at protecting and strengthening human rights in Georgia.
Within the framework of the discussion, the Georgian delegation also provided answers to the questions of the members of the UN Human Rights Committee on current issues in Georgia in terms of human rights protection.
It is worth noting that the committee positively assessed the efforts made by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia in connection with holding the 2022 Pride Week in a safe environment.
The Georgian delegation was comprised of the representatives of the executive, legislative and judicial body authorities.
The UN Human Rights Committee is comprised of independent experts, monitoring the implementation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights at the national level by the states.
