The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia, Aleksandre Darakhvelidze held a meeting with high-level representatives of National Democratic Institute (NDI) that on NDI’s behalf was chaired by Per Eklund, the former EU Ambassador to Georgia.
During the meeting, parties discussed the upcoming local self-government elections and the importance of conducting the election process in a safe and free environment. Aleksandre Darakhvelidze put special emphasis on the measures that have been undertaken by the Ministry, as well as the planned ones, with the purpose of ensuring public order and security during the pre-election period and the Election Day.
Online meeting was also attended by the Board Chair of National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and former NDI president - Kenneth Wollack; Senior Specialist of Foreign Relations Committee of the US Senate - Hannah Thoburn; Representative of the US House of Representatives - Ben Cooper; Regional Co-Directo of NDI/Eurasia - Melissa Muscio; NDI Director of Electoral Programs - Pat Merloe and NDI/Georgia Country Director - Alan Gillam.
