LEGAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM (THE FOURTH STAGE OF THE PROGRAM)

Ministry of Internal Affairs, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science and with the support of the PH INTERNATIONAL, continues the implementation of the project “Legal Development Program” in public schools for 2013-2014 academic year. Legal development program has demonstrated the importance legal culture for our youth and involvement of law-enforcers in it.

The project envisages teaching “the legal culture” subject to the 9th grade students at the schools chosen in advance. The class is taught jointly by specially trained law-enforcement officer and school teachers.

Two manuals have been developed within the project: one for students and the other for teachers and law-enforcers. Subject Legal culture has been established as a study program combined within civilian education. Such approach has not increased the curriculum rather it has strengthened the effectiveness of teaching these issues, which is concurring with civil education program for 9th grade students and with this program.

The lessons are interactive, contain role plays and are aimed at awareness rising of the students about their rights and responsibilities in areas of rule of law and justice. The topics of the manual are follows:

  • Concept and the meaning of the Legal Culture;
  • Juvenile and Law;
  • Violence (Domestic Violence, bullying at schools);
  • Bad habits and negative consequences;
  • Organized Crime (trafficking in Human Beings, Illicit trade of narcotics and arms);
  • Judiciary.

For 2013-2014 academic years, 'Legal Development Program' has been resumed in 32 public schools of Georgia, including Tbilisi - 17 public schools; Akhalkalaki – 5 public schools; Poti -5 public schools; Telavi -5 public schools.

Aside from class sessions, the program also envisages excursion of the students in the following administrative buildings of the MIA: Police Academy, Emergency Call Centre -112, Forensic-Criminalistic’s Main Division. As a result of these visits, students get acquainted with modern methods of investigation and law-enforcement activities.
