Minister of Internal Affairs, Vakhtang Gomelauri, along with Health Minister - Zurab Azarashvili, visited the site of the tragedy that took place near Gudauri in 2022.
The Minister paid tribute to the memory of the pilots, rescuers, and medics who died in the tragic accident.
Deputy Ministers of Internal Affairs, heads of various structural units of the Ministry, representatives of the Ministry of Health, firefighters, and Border Police pilots also attended the prayer ceremony to commemorate the souls of the deceased.
The tragic incident occurred on July 29, 2022 near Gudauri. During the rescue operation, the helicopter of the Border Police suffered an accident, as a result of which 8 people on board - pilots of the Border Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, rescuers of the Emergency Situations Management Service, and medics were killed. Pilots and rescuers who died in the line of duty were buried with military honors.
According to the decision of the Minister of Internal Affairs, four pilots and two rescuers who died during the tragedy were awarded with the I degree medal of the Ministry for “exceptional merits".
