Today, five bodies were found in the disaster zone during the operation conducted by the firemen and rescuers. For the third day, the employees of the Emergency Situations Management Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs have been conducting a search and rescue operation in Oni municipality.
Fire-rescuers of Emergency Situations Management Service, police units, drones, special equipment, border police helicopter and K-9 unit experts are involved in the operation.
Temur Mgebrishvili, head of the emergency management service, made a comment to the media regarding the current rescue measures. As a result of the active works, an iron structure bridge over the river was built, allowing the movement of heavy machinery into the disaster zone. According to him, the rescue operation will continue throughout the night with night vision technic.
"Today, 5 bodies were discovered, which were taken for the forensic expertise. In total, 16 bodies were found in the disaster area. The bodies are being identified at the moment. The bodies were noticed in the so-called cottages location. As for the progress of the rescue measures, as a result of active work this morning, an iron construction bridge over the river was built, which allows us to bring all the necessary equipment into the disaster area. We will actively continue working throughout the night, there is a night vision equipment and search operations will continue in round the clock regime. At this stage, 7 bodies have been identified, the process continues, and by the end of the day I think we will have some news in this direction. We found two vehicles in the river bed today. At the moment, the mentioned vehicles are being removed from the river bed. There were no people inside. We have established the owners of one of the vehicles, and they are alive and healthy" - noted Temur Mghebrishvili.
The head of the Emergency Situations Management Service also commented on various types of information spread in the media and noted that any type of information is checked and relevant response is made.
"No matter how illogical it may seem to someone, we check any information. Various types of information are being spread. Once again, I would like to take the opportunity of live streaming and call on anyone, to contact us through hotline or “112”, those who consider it necessary to verify any kind of information, we will verify all kinds of information as quickly as possible," – noted Temur Mghebrishvili.
So far, 16 bodies have been found by rescuers. More than 200 people have been transported to a safe area within the framework of the rescue operation.
