Container control programme management board meeting, supported by the UN office on drug and crime (UNODC) took place in the Ministry of internal affairs. The meeting together with the chairpersons of the MIA Patrol police department and Central criminal police department was attended by the representatives of the Ministry of Finance Customs department and UN office on drug and crime.
Board members discussed already existing experience and the extension of the project format. According to the board decision, new group will be established to control cargos transferred by the containers. It will enhance control and security on the cargos transferred to Tbilisi.
Container control program is enacted in Georgia as well as in more than 20 states of the world, with the support of the UN office on drug and crime (UNODC). The objective of the programme is to evaluate risk factors on cargos transferred by the containers, to observe and in case of necessity to open and examine them. From 2012 special division is created in Poti, consisting of employees of MIA Patrol police department, Central criminal department and the Ministry of finance customs department. Already for two years the unit implements the control on the containers transferred from risk carrying countries by using contemporary technologies and special methods.
