Head of Central Criminal Police Department Ivane Papiashvili and head of the division of the same department for the fight against international crime Levan Chikvaidzemet met with chief of Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) of the US Department of Justice Michele Leonhart, Deputy Administrator Thomas Harigan and their American colleagues. The meeting was held in New York on September 2.
At the meeting parties discussed the detection of unprecedented heroin in liquid condition the weight of which amounted to 2,7 tones on July 11. By foiling transportation of such amount of heroin, Georgia joined and took leading position among countries fighting against illegal circulation of drugs.
Parties also discussed issues of further co-operation in the field of illegal drug circulation, drug-related crime prevention and fight against international drug trafficking. Georgian delegation expressed gratitude towards their hosts for intensive and productive cooperation.
