Archive of the Ministry of Internal Affairs has hosted Polish delegation, including exhumation project director of Museum of Polish Memory Krzishtof Shvagrziki, director of archive of Museum of Polish Memory Rafal Leskvich and Lukash Shleshkovski, responsible for exhumation and DNA analysis. Members of delegation met with Rector of Police Academy Nukri Gelashvili and head of MIA Archive Omar Tushurashvili. On the basis of memorandum of co-operation concluded between MIA Archive and Museum of Polish Memory, various visits in Georgia and Poland are held on the regular basis.
Aim of the visit covers issues of exhumation of Georgian citizens who were executed and repressed during the soviet era, sharing experience of polish scientists in the field of DNA analysis and grave location activities, which will simplify the process of finding graves of the deceased Georgian citizens and identification procedures. In 1930-1940, during the soviet era thousands of Georgians had been repressed. According to the MIA Archive data 17, 472 Georgians faced death sentence in 1921-1956 period. Location of their graves remains unknown for the moment.
After meeting with MIA representatives at Police Academy, members of Polish delegation held lecture on exhumation, DNA analysis and grave location issues. Visit of the Polish delegation will last for three days.
