The officers of Counter Intelligence Center as a result of investigative and operative activities detained resident of Jokolo village Aiup Borchashvili (DoB 1979) near to Gombori village, whereas Giorgi K. (DoB 1993) Giorgi Kh. (DoB 1996) and Davit P. (DoB 1991) were detained in Tbilisi for assistance in joining the terrorist organization of a foreign state through recruitment and assistance in terrorist actions.
Investigation established that Aiup Borchashvili is the representative of terrorist organization- “Islamic State” to Georgia, operating on Syria-Iraq territory. He recruited citizens for joining terrorist organization and provided transportation to Syria for further involving recruits in the military actions.
Investigation also found out that Aiup Borchashvili with the assistance of his accomplices recruited under aged Pankisi residents –Muslim Kushtanashvili and Ramzan Baghakashvili trough the groups existing in the social network, various web sites and religious literature. On April 2, 2015 the mentioned persons left Georgia for Istanbul, Turkey, through Tbilisi International Airport. In Turkey they were met by Aiup Borchashvili’s accomplices and with their held Muslim Kushtanashvili and Ramzan Baghakashvili joined the troops of the “Islamic State”.
It was also ascertained that Aiup Borchashvili and his accomplices had an ideological influence over certain Georgian citizens, who became followers of “Wahhabism”. Law enforcers detained Giorgi K. in Tbilisi who had purchased airline ticket to the direction of Turkey and was getting prepared to cross Syrian border with the assistance and organization of Borchashvili.
Counter Intelligence officers detained Giorgi Kh. And Davit P. at Tbilisi International Airport during passport control procedures. The mentioned persons headed to the direction of Turkey; the visit was also organized by Borchashvili. The mentioned persons planned to get involved in the military actions in Syria and join “Islamic State” troops. Investigation is in progress under the article 327 (1) and 328 article envisaged by the Criminal Code of Georgia.
