Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Mgebrishvili has completed his official visit to the United States. Georgian delegation was also comprised of Deputy Ministers and heads of various MIA Departments. Within the frames of the visit Giorgi Mgebrishvili held high-level meetings with: director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, head of the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, assistant secretary, head of Drug Enforcement Administration, director of US Department of Defense and Threat Reduction Agency and head of the Georgia state Bureau of Investigation. At the meetings Giorgi Mgebrishvili reviewed recently implemented reforms within the Ministry.
Giorgi Mgebrishvili noted that a significant steps towards developing the international police cooperation have been made on legislative and institutional levels. According to him Georgia attaches huge importance to the close cooperation with the United States in the fight against organized crime and terrorism. Minister thanked the US side for the provided assistance throughout the years and cooperation Head of FBI James Comey also expressed eagerness to assist MIA Forensic Service personnel and investigators in re-training and qualification boosting. US side also expressed eagerness for supporting and deepening cooperation.
Head of DTRA Kenneth Myers noted at the meeting with Giorgi Mgebrishvili that: “We are always proud with the achievements of the Georgian government and relations with you. Your country is an example in the region in terms of the security and development” During the meeting with INL representatives expressed their willingness to continue making efforts in further development of the Ministry, support scheduled reforms and got interested in the details of the projects.
Georgian delegation also visited the state of Georgia and held meetings with the local law enforcement agency representatives. At the meetings sides summed up the existing cooperation and discussed future plans. US local media expressed interest towards the visit of the Minister of Internal Affairs and received information personally from the Minister on the details of the visit. During the interview Minister made special emphasis on the successful cooperation between the US and Georgian law enforcing agencies.
