Meeting on the issue of drug policy was held in Batumi Democratic Engagement Center with participation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the civil society. The meeting was attended by Mr. Archil Talakvadze, the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and the representatives of the non-governmental organizations and media.
The representatives of the MIA and the civil society reviewed the results of the activities carried out by law enforcement agencies; they focused on the approaches and challenges in this field. The participants discussed the issues related to the harm reduction services, prevention, combat narco-transit and the reforms implemented in Western European countries.
"Our Ministry supports the four-column drug policy, when the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation and development of the harm reduction services enable police to direct more resources to combating drug trafficking. In recent years, we have carried out unprecedented large-scale and successful drug operations for prevention of narco-transit and drug spreading. In addition, under the instruction of the Minister we are working on the project "Safe City", which will contribute to the prevention of drug abuse among children and young people, "- said Mr. Archil Talakvadze, the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs.
