Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia Giorgi Mgebrishvili continues his visit to the United States of America. Within the frames of the official visit Minister held meeting with the head of Drug Enforcement Administration Chuk Rosenberg.
Giorgi Mgebrishvili noted at the meeting that Georgian government prioritized the fight against drugs for the next year for which the government developed and adopted drug strategy and action plan for its implementation. Minister of Internal Affairs thanked Drug Enforcement Administration for sharing experience and assisting MIA drug enforcement units in capacity building. Giorgi Mgebrishvili stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between the two countries that will make the fight against drugs in Georgia even more effective.
At the meeting Minister reviewed recently implemented reforms and introduced novelties. Chuk Rosenberg gave a positive assessment of the reforms held within the agency and expressed full support for the future cooperation.
Giorgi Mgebrishvili reviewed measures held against international drug-related crime. In particular, in order to strengthen pro-active investigation, drug transit unit was created on the basis of the Central Criminal Police Department. Based on the analyses provided by the unit several routes used for the drug transit have been exposed.
At the end of the meeting Minister of Internal Affairs invited head of Drug Enforcement Administration to Georgia to discuss results achieved and plans of future cooperation.
