Employees of the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, based on the received information, launched an investigation into the fact of fraud committed against foreign citizens by an organized group under Article 180 Part IV of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
As a result of investigative actions conducted by law enforcement officers, it was established that a so-called call center was allegedly set up in one of the hotels in Dusheti Municipality.
As a result of the measures taken on the spot, the police seized dozens of mobile phones and personal computers, through which illegal financial activities were allegedly carried out, as evidence.
During the verification of the persons staying at the hotel, in coordination with the employees of the Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 14 citizens of the People's Republic of China were exposed who were staying in Georgia without legal grounds.
The Migration Department initiated deportation procedures from Georgia against the mentioned persons, as stipulated in the Law of Georgia “On the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons”, within the framework of which they were detained and placed in the Migration Department’s temporary accommodation center for the purpose of returning them to their country of origin.
Given that there was a fire in the said hotel shortly before the investigative actions were carried out, which had already been extinguished by the time the police arrived, other persons staying at the hotel left the area.
The investigation into the alleged fraud committed against foreign citizens by an organized group continues at the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Law enforcement officers are taking all appropriate measures to identify and arrest those involved in the crime, as well as their leaders.
