Employees of Human Rights Protection Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, within the framework of the information campaign -"Do Not Deprive Childhood", together with representatives of local police units held information meetings with more than 1100 students of Guria, Kakheti, Kvemo Kartli, Imereti, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti regions and Tbilisi schools, more than 400 parents, teachers, representatives of the school administration and gender councils of local municipalities.
The purpose of the information meetings was to raise awareness of harmful consequences of child marriage, the existing legal regulations in this direction, and the measures implemented by the Ministry of Internal Affairs to eliminate the issue. Within the framework of the meetings, the importance of effectively fulfilling the obligations of the referral procedures in force in the state was also emphasized.
The employees of Human Rights Protection Department informed schoolchildren about the essay contest announced within the campaign, which can be sent to adamianisuflebebi@mia.gov.ge till June 26, 2024. They also handed out branded gifts made with the support of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
