In honor of the memory of those who fell during the August war 2008 state flags were lowered on all buildings of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
In August 2008, during the Russian-Georgian war, 14 employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and 5 employees of the Coast Guard were killed.
