On November 13, 2015 after the terrorist attacks in Paris, the border control measures have tightened an all border crossing points of the country under the decision of the Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Mgebrishvili. Patrol Police officers carry out detailed interviews with passengers in order to establish actual motivations of their arrival. Particular attention is paid to the document examination procedures, transit passengers are also controlled to avoid illegal penetration of the citizens from the high-risk countries to other states through Georgia. The mentioned procedures are carried out in full compliance with the international standards.
Between 14-24 November period of the current year 479 foreign citizens were refused to cross Georgian state border through border crossing points. Based on the decision of the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Border Police personnel has been strengthened and additional forces mobilized to protect the state land border and tighten the border control. Between 14-24 November period of the current year officers of the Border Police detained 1 Georgian and 31 foreign citizens for illegal crossing of the state land border.
