As it is known to the public, before the convocation of the 11th Parliament of Georgia, a number of opposition parties are planning to assemble at Republic Square, starting on November 24 and march towards the Parliament afterwards.
Through the media and social networks, opposition party leaders are spreading information that the purpose of the mentioned gathering is to disrupt the first session of the 11th Parliament, which may be carried out by various methods.
We would like to remind the organizers and participants of the planned gathering that the Georgian legislation defines the legal framework and scope of holding a gathering-demonstration so that to protect public safety and ensure the proper functioning of various organizations.
In addition, the legislation directly prohibits the blocking of a strategic facility or of special importance, which is a punishable action under Article 222 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
The Criminal Code of Georgia envisions imprisonment for a term of up to two years for the perpetrator of the mentioned crime, and in case if the mentioned crime is committed by the group – the legislation envisions the imprisonment of up to 4 years for the group members.
In addition, we would like to remind the public that the Resolution of the Government of Georgia No. 361 of October 23, 2024 defined the list of objects of strategic and/or special importance, among which are the buildings of the Parliament of Georgia and the Government Administration.
Therefore, we warn the participants and organizers of the planned manifestation not to exceed the limits established by the Law on Assembly/Manifestation and to refrain from unlawful actions. Otherwise, the police will take all appropriate legal measures to foil illegal activities.
