We would like to inform the public about the response of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to the facts of the alleged offense related to the election. Police launched investigation into 25 facts of alleged offenses on November 28, 2018 (the day of the second round of the elections) and the subsequent period.
Criminal persecution has been initiated on 2 criminal cases, in particular:
• One person has been charged with criminal responsibility for the fact of violence in Kutaisi Airport against Mr. Jondo Gigani, spouse of Tamar Charkviani;
• Criminal persecution has been initiated against one person on the fact of violence against the journalist of the “TV PIRVELI” in the vicinity of one of the polling stations in Gldani district, Tbilisi;
Because of the absence of the action provided by the Criminal Law, since the presence of a crime is not confirmed, the investigation into the 13 cases of criminal offenses has been suspended, including:
• On the fact of violence against a representative of the opposition party in the vicinity of one of the polling stations in Mtskheta;
• On two facts of damaging the tires of vehicles owned by the representatives of the opposition party in Adigeni;
• On two facts of violence against representatives of the ruling party in the vicinity of polling stations in Batumi;
• On the fact of alleged violation of the secrecy of voting by a member of the City Assembly from the ruling party at #10 polling station in Abasha election district;
• On the fact of shooting a so called signal weapon in Chumlaki village, Gurjaani district;
• On the fact of damaging the vehicle owned by the coordinator of the ruling party at the polling station in Batumi;
• On the fact of violence against opposition supporters on the territory adjacent to the polling station in Bolnisi;
• On the fact of illegal invasion in the polling station in Rustavi by the opposition representatives and interference with the Commission’s activities;
• On the fact of shooting a so called signal weapon in the vicinity of the office of opposition party in Lagodekhi;
• On the fact of violence against the journalist of the "www.on.ge" at one of the polling stations in Didube district, Tbilisi;
• On the fact of damaging the window at one of the polling stations in the Gldani district, Tbilisi.
26 individuals in total - including the supporters of the ruling party and the opposition - are charged with criminal responsibility for the election-related incidents. Criminal prosecution against particular individuals has been launched on the fact of assault on opposition supporters in Akhalkalaki (5 individuals, including the family members of the deputy from the ruling party are charged with the responsibility) and the attack on the representative of the opposition party in Kutaisi City Assembly.
