As a result of the fire, which broke out in “Leo Grand” hotel located in Batumi, 11 people were killed, including 10 Georgian and 1 Iranian citizen. Ministry of Internal Affairs condoles to the families of the diseased.
In fire extinguishing works, fire-rescue teams of Emergency Situations Management Agency immediately got involved in the rescue operation of people trapped in the hotel building.
17 fire-rescue teams, 120 fire-rescuers along with special firefighting equipment were involved in fire extinguishing works as well as up to 200 police officers from Adjara, Guria and Samegrelo Police Departments, representatives of the Special Tasks Department along with Adjara Police Department and Patrol Police Department of Adjara.
Ambulance crews were also mobilized at the site. 21 people were hospitalized as a result of fire. After rendering first aid, their lives are not in danger. 3 patients have already been discharged from the hospital while others had been admitted to various medical facilities. One fire-rescuer has also been injured. All injured civilians are under the care of the medics.
In connection with the fact, investigation is in progress under the article 243, III part envisaged by the Criminal Code.
