Minister of Internal Affairs - Vakhtang Gomelauri, together with the Prime Minister and members of the Georgian government, as well as the head of the State Security Service, paid tribute to the memory of heroes fallen in the struggle for the unity of Georgia and laid a wreath at the memorial.
The Chairperson of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia, family members and relatives of the victims were also present at the memorial on Heroes' Square.
28 years have passed since the fall of Sokhumi this year. The military confrontation in Abkhazia began on August 14, 1992. The battle for Sokhumi ended on September 27, 1993 with the fall of the city.
