"August of 2008 was the most difficult period for Georgia and for each citizen of Georgia. It was a really difficult time for this region, for Gori, for the surrounding villages, and for the two hundred missing villagers, our citizens, who left their ancestral homes and became refugees.
Civilians and these heroes who sacrificed their lives for the territorial integrity of our country were killed.
The Battle of Shindisi was one of the special battles. It is really hard and difficult to talk about it when you listen or watch the movie. What these guys did - they sacrificed themselves for their country, it's not easy to do and these guys, these men, these heroes really wrote a new history - a history of heroism. Thank you very much and I bow before these heroes," said Vakhtang Gomelauri.
13 years have passed since the battle of Shindisi. On August 11, 2008, 17 Georgian soldiers were killed in a clash with a Russian military unit.
