Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia, Aleksandre Darakhvelidze attended the conference – “Criminal justice legal framework, areas for further improvement and ongoing reform” – organized by the Council of Europe and European Union.
Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs – Aleksandre Darakhvelidze, the Head of the Council of Europe Office in Georgia – Natalia Voutova, the Ambassador of the European Union to Georgia – Pawel Herczynski, the Head of Department for the Implementation of Human Rights, Justice and Legal Cooperation Standards of the Council of Europe - Frdric Dolt, the high level representatives of the Parliament of Georgia, the Ministry of Justice, the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia and other state agencies delivered the opening remarks.
Aleksandre Darakhvelidze emphasized on the steps taken in recent years to improve criminal law reform in Georgia and bringing it closer to the international standards. Also, he mentioned the planned changes in the criminal procedure code, within which investigative and prosecutorial functions will be significantly separated and these changes will give investigators more autonomy during the investigation process.
At the end of the speech, Aleksandre Darakhvelidze thanked the Council of Europe for its contribution to the development of human rights protection and the improvement of justice.
The conference was carried out within the framework of the Council of Europe and European Union joint project – “Supporting the Criminal Justice Reforms – Tackling Criminal Aspects of the Judicial Reform in Georgia”.
