The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Aleksandre Darakhvelidze held a meeting with the Head of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Georgia, Kemlin Furley.
The Deputy Minister introduced the guest with the positive developments in the Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, related to the structural reforms and increase in the number of human resources, which aims to improve the asylum procedure.
The parties discussed in detail the ongoing EU-supported project ,,Border and Migration Management Action for Georgia” (BMMAG).
The project will be implemented in 2022-2023 years and along with other directions will also include a number of activities with the focus on bringing the asylum policy and its legislative framework closer to European standards.
At the end of the meeting, Aleksandre Darakhvelidze expressed gratitude to Kemlin Furley and the representation of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for supporting the Ministry of Internal Affairs over the years.
