The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Aleksandre Darakhvelidze held an introductory meeting with the Head of the US Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) Regional Office for Caucasus, LTC David Canaday.
The Program Coordinators from the US Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) Tbilisi Office also attended the meeting.
During the meeting, the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs informed David Canaday about the activities and current needs of the relevant units within the Ministry. The parties discussed the activities implemented and planned within the framework of existing cooperation and ongoing projects, and also agreed on the priority directions for future collaboration.
Aleksandre Darakhvelidze emphasized the significant support provided by the US over the years towards strengthening the capacities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in response to the complex challenges in the security field of the country. He reiterated the importance of the Agency’s work to the Ministry, particularly in such priority areas as land and maritime border protection, as well as chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear security, and the prevention of the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
At the end of the meeting, the Deputy Minister expressed gratitude to the US Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) for the technical and expert support provided over the years.
