The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs - Aleksandre Darakhvelidze, hosted the "National Democratic Institute" (NDI) long-term monitoring mission of the 2024 parliamentary elections.
Within the framework of the meeting, the parties discussed in detail the relevant issues related to the upcoming parliamentary elections. Aleksandre Darakhvelidze informed the members of the delegation about the role of the Ministry of Internal Affairs related to the pre-election period and election processes, including during the pre-election campaign and the Election Day. In addition, the Deputy Minister emphasized the importance of conducting elections in a free, democratic and safe environment and in this regard - the involvement of the employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and their cooperation with authorized agencies. Aleksandre Darakhvelidze paid special attention to the Order issued by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia, that ensures the conducting of the Parliamentary Elections of Georgia scheduled on October 26, 2024 in a free, safe and peaceful environment.
In addition, Aleksandre Darakhvelidze provided the monitoring mission with detailed information on various important issues, such as: training of the employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to ensure the conducting of elections in a free, democratic and safe environment; participation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the “Interagency Commission for Free and Fair Elections”; addressing violations detected during the elections, proactively informing the public, etc.
At the end of the meeting, the Deputy Minister thanked the representatives of monitoring mission of the National Democratic Institute for their visit and expressed hope that the upcoming elections will be held in a peaceful, safe and democratic environment.
