Today closing ceremony of “World Congress on CBRN Science and Consequence Management” was closed held at “Radisson Blu Iveria” hotel.
At the closing ceremony Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili and US Ambassador to Georgia Richard Norland deleivered speeches. Event was attended by Minister of Internal Affairs Aleksandre Tchikaidze, members of government and executive branch of the state. Within the frames of the congress agreement between the United State and Georgia to transfer full sustainment and operational responsibility of the Lugar Laboratory to Georgian side. Agreement also envisages detection of especially dangerous infections, epidemiological surveillance as well as elaboration of the joint management systems for the lab. The agreement was signed by Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili from the Georgian side and and US Ambassador Richard Norland.
Considering innovative and new approach and policy of MIA in connection with chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear hazards, this year world congress is being held in Georgia for the first time and hosted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Honorable director of the congress is Prime-Minister of Georgia Irakli Gharibashvili who is the initiator of elaborating joint approach to chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear hazards.
International congress is held annually for 20 years already in Croatia or Switzerland, which is attended by representatives of more than 250 countries. Congress is dedicated to the non-spreading of CBRN substances, handling CBRN incident results, CBRN safety other issues.
Congress is attended by members of Georgian Government, representatives of executive branch, Assistant Secretary of the US Defense for Nuclear, Chemical and Biological Defense Programs, Andrew Webber, Director General of the Organization for Prohibition of Chemical Weapons Ahmet Uzumcu, representatives of diplomatic corps accredited to Georgia and CBRN experts from 38 countries.
Within the frames of “World Congress on CBRN Science and Consequence Management” MIA Emergency Situations Management Department along with the US European Command have conducted demonstrative, practical training at Richard Lugar healthcare Research Center. The training was held for the participants of the Congress. During the training CBRN team of MIA Emergency Situations Management Department has made a response to the simulated biological incident.
