The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia continues to actively cooperate with the law enforcement agencies of the EU member states through the police attaches deployed to European countries in order to effectively fight international organized crime.
A large-scale special operation under the name of "Banu" was launched in Barcelona on October 20 of the current year. The special operation was preceded by one-year intensive operative-investigative work carried out by Transnational Crime Unit of the Autonomous Police of Catalonia, Civil Guard of Spain in cooperation with the police attache of the Central Criminal Police Department under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia to establish the identities of the criminal group and their criminal connections.
Spanish law enforcement officers, as a result of a special operation, arrested members of a criminal group - 9 people, including 8 Georgian and one Russian citizen.
They are charged with crimes in accordance with Articles 237 and 570 of the Spanish Criminal Code of Georgia, including apartment theft committed on the territory of the Kingdom of Spain, as well as membership of the criminal group and envisions imprisonment for up to 5 years.
Based on the judge's decision, 7 apartments of the detainees were searched.
The defendants will be attending the relevant court hearing on October 22.
