The head of the Emergency Situations Management Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Temur Mghebrishvili, participated in the opening of the seventh meeting of the Interagency Coordination Council on Combating Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Threats.
Within the framework of his speech, Temur Mgebrishvili highlighted the leading role of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the process of fighting against CBRN threats and, additionally, spoke about the mechanisms of detection and response to CBRN threats.
The high-level representatives of all the relevant member agencies of the Council also addressed the Coordination Council. The head of the US Embassy mission to Georgia, the deputy head of Cooperation and Assistance Programs of the EU Delegation to Georgia, as well as the Regional Coordinator of UNICRI also participated in the opening of the event.
The council meeting was also attended by the representatives from the structural units of the MIA responsible for fighting against CBRN threats, namely the Forensic-Criminalistics Department, Patrol Police Department, Border police, Emergency Management Service, Central Criminal Police Department and International Relations Department.
Within the framework of the meeting, the activities carried out under the Action Plan of the National Strategy for Mitigating CBRN threats, as well as the existing challenges and achieved progress were discussed. The representative of the Emergency Management Service presented report regarding the agency’s capability to respond to CBRN incidents and future plans. At the end of the Council meeting the parties also discussed the prospects of future cooperation.
