The employees of Marneuli district police division of Kvemo Kartli Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as a result of operative search measures and investigative actions, detained two persons: S.A. (DoB 2001) and I. Kh. (DoB 2006) for helping a group to extort a large amount of money.
The committed crime envisions up to 7 years of imprisonment.
On October 22 of the current year, a hand grenade was thrown in the yard of a citizen living in one of the villages of Marneuli Municipality, in order to extort money through intimidation.
The investigation established that prior to the mentioned fact, persons living abroad contacted the victim and demanded to pay a large amount of money under the threat of killing his life and destroying his property.
The investigation conducted in the case established that S.A. and I.Kh. assisted persons residing abroad to commit extortion.
Investigative activities are underway in connection with the case.
The incident is being investigated under Articles 25-181, 236 and 187 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
