As a result of joint operational measures and investigative actions, officers of the Main Division for Combating Illicit Trafficking under the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Customs Department of the Revenue Service under the Ministry of Finance arrested a citizen of Malaysian Federation- M.T., born in 1977, on charges of illegal purchase and storage of a particularly large amount of narcotics and illegal importation into Georgia.
The committed crimes envision up to 20 years or life imprisonment.
Law enforcement officers, as a result of checking the defendant's luggage at Tbilisi International Airport, seized a particularly large amount of narcotics - 20 kilograms of "marijuana" in his travel bag as evidence.
The investigation determined that M.T. brought drugs from Bangkok to Tbilisi International Airport by plane.
The investigation is being conducted under Articles 262 and 273 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
