As a result of immediate pursuit, complex operational-search measures and investigative actions, officers of Batumi City Police Division of Adjara Police Department under the Ministry of Internal Affairs, arrested a citizen of Ukraine - M.Z., born in 1981, and a previously convicted person Sh.K., born in 1987, on charges of extortion and coercion committed in group for the purpose of obtaining a large amount of property.
The committed crimes envision up to 7 years of imprisonment.
The investigation established that the defendants in Batumi demanded from a citizen of Ukraine, M.H., born in 1994, to change his testimony at a trial in Ukraine regarding a criminal case and to transfer 180,000 USD in favor of the persons detained within the framework of the mentioned criminal case. Otherwise, the defendants threatened M.H. with death and his spouse.
As a result of immediate pursuit and investigative actions, law enforcement officers identified the persons carrying out the coercion. The police detained Sh.K. in Batumi, and M.Z. at Sarpi border checkpoint in an attempt to leave Georgia.
The investigation into the fact is underway under Articles 181 and 150, II part of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
