As a result of operational measures and investigative actions, officers of the Investigation and Detectives Divisions under Kakheti Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as well as Gurjaani Police Division, arrested 5 citizens of the Republic of Turkey, wanted for various grave crimes, on charges of illegal crossing of the Georgian state border and illegal purchase and storage of firearms - K.G., born in 1997. -, E.B. born in 1998, B.E. born in 2001, B.K. born in 2004 and M.S. born in 1998.
The committed crimes envision up to 6 years in prison.
As a result of the investigative actions conducted by law enforcement officers, it was established that the defendants crossed the Georgian border by avoiding border control through a special hiding place in trucks.
Based on the judge's rulings, as a result of the complex undercover investigative actions, it was established that the foreign citizens were planning to illegally purchase firearms in Georgia in order to commit a serious crime. It is also established that the defendants, in order to obtain financial benefits, attempted to purchase narcotics in various ways in order to sell them afterwards.
Law enforcement officers seized mobile phones, electronic communication devices, ammunition and a large amount of money as evidence during the personal search and search activities of their personal belongings, vehicles and temporary residences.
The investigation is ongoing under Articles 344 and 236 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
