Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia hosted the delegation of the Criminal Police of National Gendarmerie of the Republic of France within the frames of the work visit.
The delegation was comprised of: head of judicial police of the French Gendarmerie- General Jean-Pierre Michel, head of the central office for the fight against international crime under judicial police of the French Gendarmerie, Colonel Bernard Thibaud and head of the international cooperation unit under National Gendarmerie of the Republic of France Colonel-lieutenant Antoine Billard.
High-rank visit from the National Gendarmerie of France has paid a visit to Georgia for the first time.
Members of delegation were met by the Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Mgebrishvili. The meeting was also attended by First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Besik Amiranashvili, director of the Central criminal Police Department Davit Natriashvili and head of International Relations Department Shalva Kvinikhidze.
“As you know we have very close and fruitful cooperation with the Central Criminal Police Department, Police of Paris and Public Security Department. However, it is important for us to develop effective and fruitful cooperation with national gendarmerie as well. I believe that today’s meeting will be the pre-condition of the further development of this cooperation”-stated Minister of Internal Affairs.
At the meeting Minister discussed the importance of police cooperation in the fight against organized crime and outlined that in the recent period cooperation between law enforcement agencies of France and Georgia have become more intensive, including direct contacts between police attache and Interpol.
Giorgi Mgebrishvili acquainted guests with successfully implemented, scheduled and ongoing reforms held at the Ministry. Minister also reviewed achieved results with regards to EUROPOL cooperation and analysis-based police activities.
Director of judicial police of the French gendarmerie, General Jean- Pierre Michel expressed his gratitude towards Minister of Internal Affairs for the warm reception. According to him the visit has proved that cooperation between law enforcement agencies of Georgia and France has entered a new stage and it will become more effective and intensive.
At the end of the meeting Minister of Internal Affairs has expressed gratitude towards the French government for contributing to the reforms and capacity building of the Ministry.
