Firefighter-Rescuer’s Day was celebrated by the initiative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the first time in Georgia. The ceremony was held in Batumi. The event was attended by Mr. Giorgi Mghebrishvili, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Deputy Ministers, personnel of the Emergency Situations Management Agency of the MIA and the members of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara.
The event was opened with a welcome speech by Mr. Giorgi Mghebrishvili, who congratulated the firefighter-rescuers on their professional Day: "I am pleased to celebrate the Firefighter-Rescuer’s Day today, for the first time in the history of independent Georgia. Since 2015, when the mentioned service joined the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Emergency Situations Management Agency carried out 87 thousand different types of rescue operations, including extinguishment of more than 20 thousand fires, response to more than 6500 natural disasters, rescue and assistance to 3114 people. Firefighter-rescuers profession is a highly complex, risky and responsible. Very frequently the lives and safety of our citizens depend on your professionalism and dedication. I know that you work hard in order to fulfill your mission successfully and save the others, that are you ready to put your own life under a threat. I would like to thank you for this devotion! "- said the Minister.
The minute of silence was observed at the event in the memory of the firefighter-rescuers deceased during discharging their official duties. As Mr. Giorgi Mgebrishvili mentioned, under the initiative of the Ministry of the Internal Affairs one of the streets of Tbilisi shall be named after Zurab Muzashvili, the rescuer who died heroically in the night of June 13.
The Minister of Internal Affairs personally delivered the Letters of Appreciation to the employees of the Emergency Situations Management Agency for their excellent performance of official duties and achievements. Mr. Giorgi Mgebrishvili awarded the medallions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to the retired employees of the Agency for their special merits.
The staff of the Emergency Situations Management Agency of the MIA demonstrated the technique and equipment at the ceremony dedicated to the Firefighter-Rescuer’s day.
At the end of event the land and sea rescue simulation was presented.
