IOM Tbilisi has initiated a new project which will last 18 months; Project Partner Agencies in Georgia are: Ministry of Refugees and Accommodation; Ministry of Foreign Affairs; State Ministry on Euro-Atlantic Integration; Ministry of Interior/Patrol Police; The Ministry of Justice/Civil Registry Agency; Ministry of Economic Development; The Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Affairs; The Ministry of Education and Science, and the State Statistical Department. And the implementation partner is Georgian Foundation for Strategic and International Studies (GFSIS). The project has received generous financial support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Italy
The project aims to assist the Governments of Georgia and Armenia in the development of policies in the field of migration management, in particular as concerns:
- Assessing the potential of developing a comprehensive migration training system for government officials;
- The collection, exchange and analysis of migration-related data by key government agencies;
- The institutionalization of the Migrant Resource Centers that IOM established previously in the two target countries
The first major event of this project took place on 25-26 November 2009
in Yerevan, Armenia, when government officials, NGO representatives and IOM
staff got together to discuss effective practices of managing the Migrant Resource Centers and how to support government agencies to manage such centers.
