Briefing of Mr. Mamuka Chelidze, the Head of the Main Division Combating Organized Crime of the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs
Due to high public interest, we would like to inform you that on April 2 of this year Giorgi Giorganashvili was charged under the Articles 260 and 262 of the Criminal Code of Georgia for illegal purchase and keeping of drugs in especially large quantities and for illegal import of those to the territory of Georgia.
The crime committed by Giorgi Giorganashvili envisages up to 20 years or life term imprisonment.
The investigation established that in January 2017 Irakli Koridze agreed with his acquaintances - Giorgi Giorganashvili and Jaba Khulordava that they would illegally import to Georgia from abroad drugs in especially large quantities. They developed a plan of implementation of the crime and shared roles.
According to the agreement Giorgi Giorganashvili being financed by Irakli Koridze traveled abroad for the period from January 18, 2017 to January 24, 2017. In this period, he illegally purchased large quantity of drugs, approximately 900 pills containing "buprenorphine", pieces of different size and powder.
On January 24, 2017 Giorgi Giorganashvili met with Jaba Khulordava secretly in the town of Trabzon and handed him over the purchased drugs in order to import it illegally to Georgia.
On January 25, 2017, at Tbilisi-Senaki-Leselidze highway, the officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia conducted personal search of Jaba Khulordava and the search of a vehicle; during the search the law enforcers seized drugs handed over to Jaba Khulordava by Giorgi Giorghanashvili.
The following evidences provide the basis for accusation of Giorgi Giorghanashvili in participation in organized drug related crime:
Testimonies of up to ten witnesses, analysis of the detailed extracts indicating the incoming and outgoing calls of the phone numbers of Irakli Koridze, Giorgi Giorganashvili and Jaba Khulordava, bank statements of the members of a criminal group, chemical expertise report and other relevantly supported evidences
Jaba Khulordava is convicted and sentenced to seven years imprisonment, as for Giorgi Giorganashvili, who is also convicted for committing drug related crime and is sentenced to eight years of imprisonment, he has been charged with new accusation. The organizer of the criminal group previously multiply convicted Irakli Koridze is already sentenced to imprisonment.
Investigation is in progress under the sub-clauses "a" and "b" of the part VI of the Article 260 and the sub-clauses a" and "b" of the part IV of the Article 262 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
