The Head of the MIA Border Police of Georgia Major-General Zurab Gamezardashvili met with the Officials from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Turkey to discuss the matters of illegal migration to Syria. The sides have reviewed the future plans and agreed to cooperate and interact in order to combat illegal migration and smuggling.
The MIA Border Police of Georgia intends intense cooperation with the Turkish side on the above-mentioned issues, therefore personnel retraining plan is drafted in accordance with the needs of the Georgian Border Agency. The cooperation plan covers joint investigation measures of the MIA Border Police Operative-Investigation corresponding units and the Command of the Turkish Land Forces; as well as combined border guard trainings on the Georgian-Turkish State Border, international maritime trainings of the Georgian Coast Guard; bilateral visits and meetings and training of the Border Police personnel in the Navy multinational and NATO training centers under the “Partnership for Peace“.
