Beginning from autumn of 2014, in accordance with European standards Service Agency of the Ministry of Internal Affairs plans to change design and form of Georgian plate numbers. Changing old plate numbers will not be obligatory. Old number plates will be valid till 2024.
Price for the plate number will remain the same. Those who own plate numbers, for which certain amount of cash was paid, will be offered to change old plate numbers into the new ones for free.
MIA Service Agency will announce international tender on the purchase and production of new plate numbers. Tender will be available both for local and foreign companies.
New plate number will bear Georgian flag in the upper left corner of the plate, while identification code (GE) of the country will be imprinted on the bottom right corner of the plate. Structure of Latin letters and figures will also be changed: between two Latin letters places in right and left sides of the plate, three figures will be placed. In order to ensure authenticity of the plate number special hologram with image of national emblem will be paced. Plate number will also bear other signs in accordance with euro standards to ensure protection from fraud.
Taking into consideration Georgian auto park owners of vehicles imported from United Stated and Japan will be able to receive square-shaped plate numbers. Changes will also be implemented in connection with transport with trailers. Owning to the fact that plate numbers have been ran out, additional number will be added to the plate and design will be altered as well.
