Inter-agency training course has been concluded at the MIA Border Police Joint Maritime Operations Centre in Supsa. The final stage of the training was attended by the Head of the Border Police Dato Nikoleishvili, Director of the Patrol Police Department Goga Razmadze and III Rank Captain Libby Rasmussen from the US Coast Guard. The aim of the training was to assist the agencies within the JMOC in increasing their operational capabilities, in order to detect threats, prevent illicit acts and maritime incidents in the Maritime Space of Georgia and coordinate collaborative responses to those challenges. The training has been delivered by III Rank Captain Libby Rasmussen from the US Coast Guard. During her three-week visit to Georgia the American trainer has assisted the Georgian side in creating an initial framework on how the JMOC should operate on a daily basis. The Joint Maritime Operations Center has been established under the MIA Border Police of Georgia on the territory of Supsa Radar Station by the financial support from the US Export Control and Related Border Security Program. The Center unifies 8 state agencies and is coordinated by the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The Joint Maritime Operations Center, as an effective Intra- and Inter-Agency means of cooperation, has been equipped with the joint management, control, communications and maritime surveillance systems and corresponding infrastructure, with a main task to prevent and detect illicit acts and maritime incidents in the Maritime Space of Georgia and coordinate collaborative responses to those challenges in order to secure the Georgia’s maritime safety and regional stability.
