Summarizing briefing of the project “Enhancing the Capacity of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia for Ensuring Human Rights Adequate Protection in the Temporary Detention Isolators through Trainings and Introduction of New Working Standard” was held in the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The project closing ceremony was attended by Mr. Shalva Khutsishvili, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and the representatives of the EU Delegation in Georgia, international and non-governmental organizations.
The project, funded by the European Union was implemented in 2014-2015. It was aimed at improvement of human rights protection in the temporary detention isolators of the MIA by introduction of new standards and creation the appropriate conditions.
Within the frames of the project all employees of the temporary detention isolators of the MIA received the training on the issues of the first aid and the peculiarities of treatment with the persons of psychological and special needs. Special action procedures for the temporary detention isolators were developed on the basis of the recommendation provided by James Murdoch, the invited British expert; safe environment was created for the detainees while the persons with limited abilities were provided with the conditions tailored with their needs. The law enforces were trained in the issues of non-discrimination.
