The USA Office of the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) shall allocate half a million USD at the initial stage for the capacity building purposes of the Academy of the MIA. James A. Walsh, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State fully supported the initiative of the Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia for transformation of the MIA Academy into the international center during his visit to the Ministry. The mentioned initiative was declared by Mr. Giorgi Mgebrishvili at the meeting with Mr. William Brownfield, the Deputy State Secretary during his official visit to the USA. “Reform of the Academy will promote the police education standards in Georgia and the throughout the region as well as facilitate deepening of the cooperation between the countries of the region in the law enforcement field and establishment of common approaches and common understanding of threats; this, in its turn, will ensure the region’s stability, security and development” – the Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia mentioned. Under the initiative of the Minister the Law Enforcement Leadership and Management International Training Center will be established in the Academy of the MIA. The trainings for raising the qualification of the police officers shall be conducted by the experts invited from the USA with the support of the INL.
