At MIA Academy memorandum of understanding on cooperation was signed among 10 training institutions of the EaP member countries and EU member states. Memorandum was signed by high officials of 10 training institutions from project partner states. The solemn ceremony was headed by the General Istvan Samu (project coordinator) from the Ministry of Interior of Hungary, from the side of MIA Academy of Georgia the document was signed by the rector of the Academy Nukri Gelashvili. The event is being implemented within the frames of the project “Eastern Partnership cooperation in the fight against irregular migration – supporting the implementation of the Prague Process Action Plan (EaP-SIPPAP)” which was organized under the auspices of the Ministry of Interior of Hungary and International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD). The Memorandum aims to provide legal and institutional framework for strengthening and facilitating cooperation in the field of education and basic/advanced training of border guards in all EaP countries and EU MSs in the angle of the fight against illegal migration. It is notable that conclusion of the multilateral memorandum was held for the first time with participation of MIA Academy in connection with the mentioned issue.
The event was attended by representatives of the national agencies of border management from Eastern Partnetship member states’ namely from: Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Moldova, Ukraine as well as by national border agency representatives from EU member states: Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia.
The project contributes to enhanced strategic and operational cooperation in the field of the fight against illegal migration in eastern partnership region. Project is mainly focused on prevention of illegal migration and elaboration of the coordinated methods of border management.
The project is implemented by the following partners: the State Border Guard of Latvia, the Border Guard of Poland, the Schengen Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Romania, the Bureau of Border and Aliens Police of the Presidium of the Police Force of Slovakia, and the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) under the lead of the Ministry of Interior of Hungary.
On the second day after concluding memorandum conference will be held, in the course of which conference speakers will sum up achievements and activities held in the field of border management and illegal migration within the frames of the 2-year project and discuss spheres of future cooperation.
