30 Servicemen from MIA Special and Emergency Measures Center, Special Tasks Department and Department for the Protection of Strategic Objects have participated in Sppecil Olympics Torch Relay for the first time.
With torch relay ceremony European International Tournament in Football was opened on May 16. Torch relay started on the Freedom Square and ended on Mikheil Meskhi “Lokomotivi” stadium. The event also included cultural and entertaining programs.
On 16-18 May International Football Championship is held with the support of “UEFA RESPECT” and under the auspices of Special Olympics. In the mentioned tournament more than 230 sportsmen with intellectual disabilities from 14 states, including: Belgium, Luxemburg, France, Italy, Denmark, Hungary, Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Russia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Georgia will participate in the tournament. Special Olympics contributes to popularization of the health lifestyle, development of sport activities and involvement of persons with intellectual disabilities in Football community.
Representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs have expressed their support towards persons with intellectual disabilities and their involvement in Special Olympics.
