Today Minister of Internal Affairs Aleksandre Tchikaidze, Head of Border Police Zurab Gamezardashvili and the US Ambassador Richard Norland have attended the ceremony of handing over necessary equipment as well as crane aimed for vessels for shipbuilding facility on the territory of Coast Guard base in Poti.
Head of Border Police Zurab Gamezardashvili and the US Ambassador Richard Norland delivered introductory speeches.
Ceremony was attended by representatives of U.S Embassy to Georgia and other high-rank officials.
Also, today Minister of Internal Affairs and Ambassador solemnly opened new facility of Maritime Fusion Center on the territory of “Supsa” station of Coast Guard Department. At the ceremony Aleksandre Tchikaidze, Richard Norland and Zurab Gamezardashvili delivered introductory speeches.
The mentioned center, which is a commanding point for maritime operations, was founded on the basis of the MIA Coast Guard and is equipped with necessary systems, including joint command, control, communications, maritime monitoring technologies and infrastructure.
Joint Command Center will contribute to the effective combat against the existing threats in the Georgian territorial waters.
The main goal of the Center is the prevention of illegal activities in the Georgian territorial waters, maritime incidents and prevention of serious violations of the law in the Georgian maritime zone.
