Deputy Minister Archil Talakvadze together with the Deputy Chef of Mission of the United States of America to Georgia Nicholas Berliner opened a seminar on the „Joint Maritime Operations Centre“ (JMOC) in the Hotel Radisson. The seminar is financed by the US Export Control and Related Border Security (EXBS) Program. The opening ceremony was attended by the Deputy Minister of Defense Levan Ghirsiashvili, Deputy Minister of Finance Mr. Giorgi Tabuashvili, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Ms. Natia Mikeladze, Deputy Minister of Environment and Natural Resources Ms. Maia Bitadze, US EXBS and other representatives of the US Embassy to Georgia, as well as representatives from MIA Border Police, Coast Guard, Counter Terrorist Centre, Patrol Police Department, Ministry of Finance, State Security and Crisis Management Council and other line ministries.
The five-day seminar will be held in two stages. At the first stage, the participants will get acquainted with the functioning of the Joint Maritime Operations Centre (JMOC) and during the following days the participants will be divided in interagency working groups to elaborate the Standard Operational Procedures for JMOC with the support of the US experts.
Joint Maritime Operation Center was built with the financial support of the US Export Control and related Border Security Program (EXBS) and was officially opened in June of 2014. The main tasks of the JMOC are to prevent, detect and eliminate all kind of illegal activities, maritime incidents and grave violations of maritime space rgime of Georgia, posing threats to the security of Georgia and the region as a whole.
