Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Vakhtang Gomelauri visited the United States that lasted for a week. During the visit Deputy Minister and representatives of MIA held important meetings with high ranking persons of Federal Bureau of Investigation and other law enforcement agencies of the US.
Along with the Deputy Minister, representatives of Special Tasks Department of Special and Emergency Measures Center of MIA and director of Police Academy also participated in the meetings. The visit was organized by the embassy of the United States in Georgia.
Georgian delegation visited head-quarters of FBI and met with deputy director of FBI Kevin Perkins. During the meeting results of past cooperation were evaluated and future priorities elaborated. He expressed full support to the Georgian colleagues. Delegation also visited Academy of FBI.
At the FBI Academy and other police departments of the US various presentations were held especially for Georgian delegation. Such as meetings with groups of sappers, members of tactical team (swat) and firearm specialists from special group for releasing hostages as well as with inter-agency operative department for fight against terrorism.
Deputy Minister of MIA held important meeting with director of public safety training center Tim Burton. The Academy of MIA and abovementioned center are connected by cooperation memoranda. During the visit, in honor of Academy of MIA long-term exhibition was opened in the center.
Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia co-operated with various the US law enforcement agencies for a long time.
Co-operation between MIA and US Federal Bureau of Investigation of basically implies exchange of operative information and support in forensic field.
It is particularly important for the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia co-operation with Federal Bureau of Investigation in the context of shearing experience in fighting international terrorism, trafficking, drug-traffic, cybercrime and organized crime. Such cooperation is important while getting familiarized with American experience and in order to implement relevant changes within Georgian police
On the basis of agreement signed within the frames of abovementioned visit Georgian law enforcers will undergo trainings in USA during 2014.
