With the purpose of elaborating standard operative procedures at Temporary Deletion Centers British Human Rights Expert James Murdoch visited Temporary Detention Center at the so called “Moduli” building.
He assessed the current situation at the place and got familiarized with implemented reforms. Within the frames of the visit other detention centers will also be visited by British Human Rights Expert. After getting familiarized with existing environment in the centers British expert will elaborate recommendations to improve the current situation and will ensure the elaboration of SOPs. On the basis of elaborated standard operative procedures MIA Academy will implement new trainings on capacity building for the employees of Human Rights Protection and Monitoring Main Division. It is notable that from 2012 no cases of human rights violation have been registered.
From 2014 the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia is implementing the project “Capacity Building of Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia to Ensure Adequate Human Rights Protection in Isolators of Temporary Detention through Trainings and Introduction of New Standards of Work”, which is financed by the European Union.
The overall objective of the project is to ensure human rights protection in isolators of temporary detention through implementing adequate conditions, trainings for TDI staff and introduction new standards of work. Within the frames of the visit Mr. Murdoch will hold meetings with representatives of Non-Governmental Organizations and Public Defender’s Office as well as with advocates.
