International Organization for Migration (IOM) with the financial assistance of European Union handed over modern equipment for document inspection to the Patrol Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia.
High level representatives of Patrol Police Department, International Relations Department, Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, International Organization for Migration (IOM) and Delegation of the European Union to Georgia attended the event, which was held at Tbilisi International Airport.
Passport readers handed over by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) will help the border controllers of Patrol Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in process of thorough inspection and authentication check of travel documents, while customs officers will monitor customs formalities against the owners of international shipping vehicles even more quickly and effectively.
Mentioned equipment was purchased within the framework of EU funded project “Sustaining Border Management and Migration Governance in Georgia (SBMMG), aim of which is to enhance the capacities of Georgian authorities in the areas of integrated border management and migration governance guided by relevant agreements and action plans concluded between the EU and Georgia, especially in accordance to the with the Visa Liberalization Action Plan signed between the EU and Georgia.
