In the recent period Georgian media sources disseminated wrong information broadcasted by Iranian news agency “Fars News” according to which 97 Chechen fighters entered Georgian border from the Republic of Turkey and Iran and are located in the Pankisi gorge. According to the information the group of Chechen fighters plotted to penetrate on Russian territory through Georgia with the purpose of conducting terrorist and subversive activities.
Taking into consideration high interest from the society in relation with state security and stability issues, Ministry of Internal Affairs has made a decision to supply public with correct information regarding the above mentioned. Ministry of Internal Affairs would like to state that allegation on the presence of Chechen fighters in Pankisi gorge is a complete falsehood. Thus, Ministry would like to call on representatives of Georgian media to abstain from disseminating such king of unverified information which may cause certain damage to the national interests of the country.
